Teams and managers

Group members into teams, appoint a manager for each, and let managers keep their own people on track.

Teams let you organize your members by department or function, roll up reporting per team, and delegate light oversight to a manager without giving them admin access.

Teams is a feature flag

The Teams tab appears in Settings only when the teams feature flag is on. Enterprise organizations have it on by default. See Settings and branding → Feature flags.

Creating and managing teams

Teams are managed under Settings → Teams.

  1. Click New team, enter a name, and click Create.
  2. To set membership, click Members on a team row, tick the people who belong, and click Save members.
  3. To remove a team, click Delete on its row and confirm. Members are simply unassigned; nothing else about them changes.

A member can belong to more than one team.

The manager role

Manager is a team-scoped role. Unlike an org admin, a manager sees only the people on the teams they manage.

A manager can:

  • View their team's roster on the People page (their team's members only).
  • View their team's reports: Overview, Courses, Teams, and Learners tabs, scoped to their team.
  • Open a team member's transcript.
  • Nudge their team members.
  • Assign published courses and programs to their team members, with a due date and a mandatory flag. Assign to all means their team, not the organization.

A manager cannot change roles, invite members, deactivate accounts, edit settings, or see the Quizzes report tab. Apart from assigning and nudging, what a manager sees is read-only.

Appointing a manager

A team's manager is set on the team itself, and the person also needs the manager role so they can sign in to the manager view:

  1. Give the person the manager role on the People page.
  2. Set them as the team's manager (assign them to the team so they lead it).

Once both are in place, that person sees their team, and only their team, wherever team-scoped data appears. If a manager leads no teams, their scoped views are simply empty.

Nudging your team

A nudge sends a member a friendly reminder notification (an in-app bell alert, and a branded email if they have email notifications on).

Managers may nudge only members of the teams they manage; org admins can nudge anyone. Each nudge is recorded in the audit log.

Nudges respect notification preferences

A nudge always reaches the member's in-app bell. The email copy is skipped if the member has opted out of email or is currently active in the app. See Integrations → Email and notifications.
