FAQ¶
What do I need to run PulseID? A phone for the scanner app at each door, and a browser for the web admin. No proprietary hardware — bring the phone you already use.
Which IDs does it read? AAMVA-standard driver's licenses and state IDs from all 50 US states, DC, the US territories, and all of Canada (AAMVA versions 1–10). It reads the PDF417 barcode on the back.
How fast is a scan? About half a second from barcode to decision on the phone. The fake-ID front/back comparison finishes a few seconds later.
Does it work without internet? Yes. The door decision runs locally, your flag list is cached on the device, and scans queue and sync automatically when the connection returns.
Does PulseID use facial recognition? No — never. The fake-ID check compares the text on the front of the ID to the barcode. See Privacy & Compliance.
What's the difference between a Ban and a Trespass? A ban is your house decision to refuse someone. A trespass is a formal legal notice (often with a police report) where returning can mean arrest. Both deny entry at the door. See Flags.
Can a bouncer let in someone who got denied? No. Only a Manager or Venue Admin can override a denial, and the override is logged with a reason.
Why did a flagged person get "Manual Review" instead of "Deny"? The flag matched on name only (no exact ID match), so PulseID asks a manager to confirm rather than risk denying the wrong person.
What's a "pass-back" warning? The same ID — or the same name and DOB on a different card — was scanned within the last 15 minutes, suggesting an ID was handed back to someone else. It forces a manual review.
Does PulseID verify mobile driver's licenses (Apple/Google Wallet)? No. Ask for the physical card. The ID Security Guide covers other ID types.
How long is scan data kept? By default 30 days for scans and 1 year for flags, both configurable. Scans tied to an active flag are kept. See Privacy & Compliance.
A patron wants their data deleted — what do they do? Email [email protected]; PulseTech processes the request.
Is the ID guide guaranteed accurate? No — it's a training reference reviewed about once a year. The person checking the ID is always responsible for the final call.
